And the winner is…

Lucky Post # 11

That would be Gus with the Chuck Norris knock knock joke. So his name is really Guy, but he goes by Gus. He is one of our good friends from church in the Ham and was also one of Brent’s college roommates. Congratulations Gus!
And for our favorite knock knock joke….that was very difficult to determine. I first have to say kudos to my grandmother (Rosie) who made up her own knock knock joke! But our favorite was my dad’s…well my mom made the comment, but she won’t claim it as her own because she doesn’t want to be crude.

Blog’s First Birthday Giveaway!

***Update: I have extended the deadline to Monday (3/30) at midnight.
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday dear VK Blog,
Happy Birthday to you!
So we have successfully completed the first year of blogging! We (or I, since I am the one who does the blogging) have covered many topics, most of which I hope have made you laugh. We are proud to announce the first birthday blog giveaway. And now, the unveiling of the “something”, here is a picture of what one lucky winner will receive!
Here’s the deal: You have until 11:59 pm Sunday night to comment on the birthday blog. You must leave a knock knock joke and some way of letting me know who you are. Please don’t leave your address or phone number. Your first name will do. If you do not leave a knock knock joke, I will not consider your comment when selecting the winner. After a winner has been selected, I will announce it on another blog post and the winner and I will decide the best to get the “something” to you. I will use to select the winner. Be on the look out for the next post. I will also announce our favorite knock knock joke. Have fun posting and happy first birthday VK blog!

On a break…

To all you dedicated VK bloggers out there…

I am taking a break from Facebook and Blogging, and really the whole internet, for at least a week. I’m thinking about breaking up with the TV too. It’s going to be difficult, but I want to prove to myself that I can do this…that it is possible to live without media. I feel slightly convicted that I spend way too much time doing nothing of worth. Not that there is anything wrong with FB, Blogging, email, etc., I just need to be away from it for some time. I want to have time for the more important things in life, like quality time with my husband and maybe get some reading done. Possibly pick up my guitar and learn something new. Go on a walk and cook a real dinner. I’ll be back, I promise. I have to, the blog birthday give away is coming soon! I just need some me time without the distraction of the world.  And you can be praying for me (and Brent, you better believe I am not doing this alone) that I would find ways to fill my time, without feeling like I need to change my status, update the blog, watch Jon and Kate, etc. I leave you with one of my favorite passages of scripture:
Two things I ask of you, O Lord;
do not refuse me before I die:
Keep falsehood and lies far from me,
give me neither poverty or riches,
but give me only my daily bread.
Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
and say, “Who is the Lord?”
Or I may become poor and steal,
and so dishonor the name of my God.
Proverbs 30: 7-9

The Weekend

Have you ever been too exhausted to eat? I think of the times I’ve been to Six Flags or White Water and I’m so hot and tired that all I want is something to drink and I don’t want a bite of anything. Well I must have completed a marathon at work on Friday because I was literally too exhausted to eat lunch. I sat in the break room and just stared at the wall for an hour. That’s what 24 kindergartners will do to you sometimes 🙂 So, I told Brent to meet me at Five Guys for dinner…I deserved a greasy cheeseburger and fresh cut fries. Then we made our way to Lifeway because I needed a book. Didn’t really know what book, I just knew that I wanted a new book to read. I came home with In Step With God by Charles Stanley. I can’t tell you if it’s good because I haven’t had a chance to sit down since I bought it. Friday night was spent studying for Sunday school and Sunday night classes with the youth…in between loads of laundry. Saturday we woke up early and made our way to a Habitat for Humanity house to paint. The company Brent works for provided some volunteers to paint the ceilings and walls in a 3 bed/2 bath house. We were only expecting to be painting with Brent’s co-workers. Instead, it seems like the entire community showed up to help, which was very nice of them, but they took all the painting supplies and took up all the elbow room. So, we ran an “errand” to get some Starbucks coffee. When we returned, the crew was waiting for the primer on the walls to dry. We waited for about 45 minutes and about 11:15, lunch showed up. We ate with everyone then left. I hate to eat and run…but we didn’t see the need to stand there, without supplies, and be in the way. My brother, Ben, and our friend, Gus, showed up around noon to spend the day with us. Ben came up here to get a mattress we weren’t using and he was supposed to bring a taller ladder than the one we have so that we could fix some loose roof shingles…but he forgot the ladder. We ate dinner at Village Pizza and got dessert at Maggie Moo’s (my fav). Gus returned home and Ben spent the night. Sunday morning was spent at church and lunch. I went to Gap that afternoon because I had a 30% coupon, thanks to Kristin, and conveniently had $80 in gift cards leftover from Christmas. I could have bought the whole store, but a coupon and $80 dollars only goes so far. We went back to church Sunday night to teach the ETS (Equipping the Saints) class on worship. I just have to stop here and commend The Lane youth…since it is the first weekend of their Spring break, we weren’t expecting to have very many students. We had 8 in our class and 21 total over all the youth classes. I think that’s pretty good for Spring break. Ben left around 8 and Brent and I watched “Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist”. I don’t recommend it. The storyline is all cute and sweet, but the language and such is unnecessary. Then it was off to bed to wake up to another wonderful week 🙂 I hope all of you had a great weekend and, if you have a Spring break this week, I hope you enjoy relaxing wherever you may be.

Mark your calendars!

In honor of our blog’s first birthday on March 28th, we will be having our first ever give away! We will be ordering something from The Something Store. Here’s how it will work. We will randomly pink a number before we post the Happy Birthday Blog post. In order to be eligible, you must leave a comment that includes your favorite knock knock joke (on the birthday post, not this one). If you comment without a knock knock joke…you will not be eligible. So, don’t think you can be a party pooper, not play along and still get the prize. Not gonna happen. I’m telling you this now so that you can do your research and find your favorite knock knock joke. Please keep it clean. If your comment is the random number Brent and I chose, we will contact you to get info on how to get the “something” to you. We will not open the “something” and we would appreciate you keeping in touch and let us know what “something” you receive. If you know nothing about the “something” go here. Good luck with your knock knock joke research!
